LEED Recommended For All General Services Administration Buildings

Wednesday, May 29th, 2013

Early this month, the Green Building Advisory Committee, officially recommended that all General Services Administration (GSA) buildings use the LEED green building certification system. The Green Building Advisory Committee was established by GSA in 2011. The reason for this recommendation is to measure the buildings efficiency. The committee also communicated that LEED should be the primary way to show how agency buildings use energy and water and that LEED standards are the best way to help meet the Energy Independence and Security Act.

Roger Platt, senior vice president of Global Policy & Law, USGBC said, “GSA has been a leader in energy and sustainability, and we are thrilled to see the leaders in the public and private sectors continue to recommend LEED as the best choice for GSA to maintain its leadership status while improving sustainability, reducing energy and saving money for its buildings.”

The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) recently did a study that found LEED certified building use 25 percent less energy than the national average and cost 19 percent less to operate. Click here to learn more about LEED.
