Acrymax attends 2013 Greenbuild Leadership Luncheon

Tuesday, September 10th, 2013

Today I attended the the 2013 Greenbuild Leadership Luncheon. With only about 2 months remaining til Greenbuild Nation comes to the greater Philadelphia area, this was a great event to kick things off. It allowed me to learn more about the work that has gone into Greenbuild 2013, the plans for Greenbuild, and to celebrate the leadership that Philadelphia and the USGBC has contributed to making this event a guaranteed success. Please take a minute to view the honorary chairs of Greenbuild 2013.

This event was held at The Hub – Cira Centre which is located adjacent to 30th Street Station. Given its location and keeping with the spirit of the event, I took the train to and from Philadelphia via the SEPTA Media/Elwyn Line. Not only was this a more environmentally friendly option than driving, but it also was more cost effective than parking in the city and I was able to be more productive on the train. This was truly sustainable option!

Acrymax Lunch & Learn

Acrymax Lunch & Learn

This was  a very successful event where we introduced these two contractors to Acrymax coatings systems and solutions. The educational program was facilitated by reviewing case histories, new products, and answering an abundance of questions.

Acrymax offers these types of Lunch  & Learn Seminars on a periodic basis for building owners, contractors and specifiers. Architects who are interested in continuing educations will be interested to know Acrymax is approved to provide AIA/CES Learning Units. LEED Recommended For All General Services Administration Buildings

Wednesday, May 29th, 2013

Early this month, the Green Building Advisory Committee, officially recommended that all General Services Administration (GSA) buildings use the LEED green building certification system. The Green Building Advisory Committee was established by GSA in 2011. The reason for this recommendation is to measure the buildings efficiency. The committee also communicated that LEED should be the primary way to show how agency buildings use energy and water and that LEED standards are the best way to help meet the Energy Independence and Security Act.

Roger Platt, senior vice president of Global Policy & Law, USGBC said, “GSA has been a leader in energy and sustainability, and we are thrilled to see the leaders in the public and private sectors continue to recommend LEED as the best choice for GSA to maintain its leadership status while improving sustainability, reducing energy and saving money for its buildings.”

The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) recently did a study that found LEED certified building use 25 percent less energy than the national average and cost 19 percent less to operate. Click here to learn more about LEED.

Acrymax is a member of the U.S Green Building Council (USGBC). We offer products that help achieve LEED points. Products include solar reflective coatings and coatings that contain recycled content. Acrymax will be exhibiting at the Greenbuild Expo in Philadelphia November 20-22.

International Roof Coatings Conference

Wednesday, July 18th, 2012

I was able to attend the International Roof Coatings Conference for the last two days. It was held in Baltimore, MD and was hosted by the Roof Coatings Manufactures Association (RCMA). I found the conference very informative and interesting with topics ranging from policy oriented issues to technical information on new products by raw material manufacturers and accelerated testing procedures.

I especially enjoyed the presentations regarding the RoofPoint rating program by the Center for Environmental Innovation in Roofing and product presentations by Dow Chemical and Arkema.

RoofPoint is able provide a guideline for sustainability in roofing where other systems like LEED may come up short. This is because LEED is generally focused full project certification. However, close 75% of roofing project in the US are retrofit type applications and of that 75%, a significant portion are solely focused on roofing. The RoofPoint program was built with this understanding and delves into roofing design practices that are sustainable but may not qualify for an individual LEED point.

On the product side, Dow Chemical focused on one of their new resins and its adhesion to Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) while Arkema focused on their waterborne Fluoropolymer coating
